Fig Tree Bay or Konnos Bay: Swimming, Snorkelling and Parking
Updated October 25, 2026 · 4 min read
Choose Fig Tree Bay for the easiest beach day from central Protaras; choose Konnos Bay for a smaller, scenic cove beside Cape Greco. Neither is universally better. Your transport, appetite for a downhill approach and wish to combine swimming with the national park decide more than the colour of the water.
Fig Tree Bay: convenient and busy
Fig Tree Bay is the practical choice when you are staying in Protaras and want cafés and the resort close by. That convenience also attracts more people. Arrive earlier if parking or a front-row patch of sand matters, and do not assume that a famous beach will feel quiet at the busiest part of the day.
Konnos Bay: compact and sheltered
Cyprus Tourism describes Konnos as a 200-metre beach sheltered from heavy winds. It lists toilets, changing rooms, loungers, umbrellas, a beach bar, water sports and parking, with lifeguards from April to October. The route descends through pine trees. Parking exists, but a listed car park is not a promise of an empty space at peak time.
Snorkelling and sea conditions
Both bays can offer clear water, but clarity and swell change. Konnos connects naturally with Cape Greco, while Fig Tree Bay is easier to combine with a resort day. Bring suitable footwear if you plan to explore rocky edges and keep clear of boats and marked activity zones.
Our recommendation
Without a car, start with Fig Tree Bay. Choose Konnos Bay when you are already visiting Cape Greco or want a more enclosed cove. Check current lifeguard hours, facilities and sea conditions locally rather than treating seasonal services as year-round guarantees.
