Scuba Diving in Protaras: Beginner Dives, Green Bay and Wrecks
Updated October 25, 2026 · 4 min read
If you have never dived, book the first scuba dive with a lesson and shallow-water practice, not a wreck dive. The three-hour introduction starts at €75 and moves from theory to practice before a guided dive once you are comfortable. Existing certification changes the choice completely.
Why Green Bay works for learning
Cyprus Tourism lists Green Bay as a shore-entry site in the Cape Greco network. It describes an absence of currents or waves and its use as a confined-water training area. The official site gives an 11-metre depth and notes artificial statues at 10 metres, fish and possible turtle sightings. Those details explain why beginners train here; they do not guarantee wildlife or identical conditions every day. The linked listing, however, names Blue Bay as its dive site, not Green Bay; Green Bay serves here as an example of what makes a beginner site. Ask which site your booking uses.
Introductory dive versus certified dive
An introduction teaches basic signals and equipment and keeps the dive under direct supervision. It is an experience, not a substitute for a qualification. Certified divers should tell the centre their certification level, recent experience and desired site. A wreck may require qualifications, depth experience or conditions that a first-time participant does not have.
What to confirm
Ask about the current minimum age, medical questionnaire, group size, equipment included and cancellation policy. Do not hide a health issue to keep a booking: the operator must decide whether participation is possible. If you have concerns, discuss them with an appropriate clinician before the trip.
Our recommendation
For a first experience, choose the three-hour introductory dive. Certified divers should contact the centre about an appropriate reef or wreck rather than booking a beginner programme for convenience.
